As evening approaches the North Head Lighthouse at Cape Disappointment shines bright. The North Head Lighthouse sits upon a bluff on the the Washington coast, located two miles north of Cape Disappointment and the mouth of the Columbia River. The North Head is one of the windiest locations on the West Coast, so the lighthouse was put into service in 1898 to help guide ships to their destination through rough seas.
